I am five days old today. I am already growing into my clothes (and going through a lot of them). I had two more friends come by and visit today. Thanks Keith and Cameron!

Goin' Home

Surf's Up Dude

Shortly after I was born, the nurses ran me through a test phase where they checked my height and weight, rubbed some goo in my eyes, and made sure that I had the right number of everything. Here is a picture showing you my big foot sticking out of the blanket.
After that, Dad pointed out some big waves in the sink, where the nurse had drawn some bath water, so Dad and I jumped in and he gave me my first bath.
Oh What a Night!

So, here is the story: I was past my due date by a week, and everyone was getting really curious about when I was going to arrive. My mom started having contractions on Dec. 12th, but we all patiently waited at home until 10 a.m.on Dec. 13th. We had set up a date to induce labor at the hospital on Dec. 13, but when we arrived at the hospital and got mom hooked up on all the machines, we found out that we were well into labor already, and that we weren't going to be needing induction today. This information was very exciting for everyone involved, including the delivery nurse who thought that we were going to have a baby before her shift ended at 4 p.m. Ha!
Everything was proceeding very fast. We jumped from 4cm dialated to 7 cm dialated in 1.5 hours. Mom's pain was increasing, and we decided to start the epidural for her comfort. Mom was feeling great, and the contractions were still coming, but labor began to slow down, so we just kept waiting to be fully dialated and ready for delivery... and this is when our second delivery nurse arrived for the beginning of her shift.
At 7 p.m., Dr. Tu arrived, and everything was in place to start "pushing". We waited a little while for the medical staff to get prepared, and at 8 p.m., we began. We pushed, and pushed, and pushed, and we pushed more. Mom was working very hard, and things just seemed to take forever. Dad must have counted to 10 about 5,000 times as we tried to get me into my parents hands. It was as if every new hour that came, the medical staff would tell us that I would be arriving in just another hour... and that is when our third delivery nurse arived for the beginning of her shift.
Maybe it was the hour of the night, and maybe it was that we were ready to be done with labor, but the new nurse that came on shift was so very different than the two earlier nurses that we had come to enjoy. The earlier nurses had encouraged us along each step of the way, but the 10 p.m. regime had orders in hand from the minute she walked in the room.
At 11 p.m., Dad, Dr. and nurse all began to see signs of my hairy head, and that encouragement brought with it a sense of accomplishment. Mom knew that she was moving along, and that we just had a little farther to go. With each minute that ticked by, we began to understand that I was not going to be arriving on the 13th of December (although Uncle Jim, who was also born on Dec. 13th thought he had the due date pegged). But the beginning was in site.
With each new contraction brought twice as much hope, and just past midnight, Finnegan Laird Jensen was born at 12:40 a.m.
Winter Weather

Woo-hoo! We have had some crazy November weather this year. As soon as we got the Christmas tree up, the snow came! A lot of it. Everything around town was shut down for most of the week. I must say that I am proud of my parents, because no matter what kind of weather, they made sure that we got into our Dr. appointment.
Here are some fun pictures of our house after the snow storm.
Christmas Tree Oh' Christmas Tree
The day after Thanksgiving, we all buttoned up our pants and went out Christmas tree shopping! The cool thing is that we talked Grandma and Grandpa Powell into joining us. We all found groovy mud boots to wear, and went to a fun Christmas tree farm where we got to walk around and pick out our very favorite tree, and cut it down. Mom & Dad wanted to get the tree up so that they could be ready for Christmas when I came to town. Here is a picture with Dad & Mom, Grandma & Grandpa Powell, and my dog Stella!Turkey Day!

Here is Mom & Dad in the Kitchen cooking their very first turkey. Aunt Mandy and Uncle Rick, Stacie, Amy & Caitlin, and my grandparents all came to visit. Why am I telling you about all of this? Because that big bump in Mom's belly is me... and I am only a few week's away from joining the party. Everyone is excited to meet me, so things are pretty groovy in Finland (ha). Gotta tell ya, the turkey was mmmmm good!
Some Backtracking

Some things to catch you up to speed. It has been a busy year for Dad & mom. They have been eagerly anticipating my arrival since way back in March. My parents have finished a big to-do list to get the house ready for Mr. Man to join them. Here is a picture of mom working on painting the outside of the house, and the new deck that we are going to spend a lot of time enjoying when the weather warms up. We also have a new wood floor, and my room (which I will tell you about later) is sweet!
Behind the Wheel

Hi... my name is Finnegan Laird Jensen. I came into this world EARLY in the morning on Thursday, December 14th, 2006.
It has been a crazy couple of days getting used to life on the outside, but I already have some stories to share.
I hope that you enjoy reading my blog, and I look forward to sharing my life experiences as they unfold.
